Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to investing heavily in the establishment of a domestic semiconductor manufacturing base. Speaking at the Semicon India summit on Wednesday, Modi emphasized that India is not adopting a passive approach but is instead focused on significantly increasing its domestic chip production capabilities. He highlighted the country’s record growth in mobile phone assembly as a positive indicator for this ambitious initiative, underscoring the goal of building a resilient electronics sector that remains operational even during crises.
On Tuesday, Modi met with executives from major semiconductor firms such as SEMI, Micron, NXP, and others. During these discussions, he assured them of a “predictable and stable policy regime,” aiming to foster a favorable environment for semiconductor industry growth in India.
